Bloom Where You’re Planted

You want to leave your job.

The company you were so excited to join is a sad shell of itself after rounds of layoffs.

Some of the people you loved working with were let go.

You have to do twice as much work, maybe more.

Any semblance of psychological safety is gone.

The executive staff you once thought were so trustworthy have proven false.

And who knows what else.

Companies can turn on a dime.

You’ll find the true culture not when money is free and free flowing, but when money is tight and the company is scraping to survive.

And so you want to leave your job. But you can’t.

The market is extremely tight right now. Looking for a job is a full time job.

You have bills, or a mortgage, or a family, or all of that and more.

So you have to stay where you are, for now.

I’ve been there. I got stuck at a company for almost three years. I interviewed during that time more than I ever had. And it took me over two years to receive an offer. Everyone was looking for a purple unicorn, and that unicorn wasn’t me.

But I did manage to learn a ton during that time. I learned about myself. I learned self-control. I learned to love my team members. I learned that we can grow just as much in adverse times as in good.

And you can choose to spend this time learning as well.

Sometimes you need to learn to bloom where you are planted.

If you want help finding joy and growth where you’ve been planted, to prepare for when you do find your next amazing job, I’m here to help you.
